Dundee provides many exciting fishing options at different locations using a variety of fishing techniques. Good size saltwater barramundi can be caught just meters from the boat ramp, and there are kilometers of coastline with rivers, creeks and plenty of room to get away from the crowds. The Finniss River and Little Finniss are always consistent producers and turn on great barramundi sessions on the right tide. The rocky coastal headlands in Fog Bay also provide good saltwater barra fishing as do the small creeks along the coast. Dundee also has some fantastic bluewater fishing options which top up a day's fishing in between the good barra tides. 'We fish for jewfish on the shallow inshore reefs around Fog Bay. Jewies have the softest bite on the bait but once hooked they go like road trains and can have people reeling to exhaustion. They are a great eating fish and freeze well in a fish box to take home to share with family. Heading out wide we troll for Spanish Mackerel and chase Tuna. Macks turn it on with blistering runs of speed and Tuna fight really well on light tackle. It is pump and wind pump and wind with double bent rods to muscle fish off the bottom. Pelagic fish such as Giant Trevally and Queenfish are also caught at Dundee. Queenies swim in big schools and multiple hook ups on high flying queenies is very common. Tangling with a good GT is a knockdown battle which could last up to 20 minutes. The reefs wide of Dundee are also home to most of the Top Ends best reef fish. Over the years we have marked plenty of good ground, and this is where our fifteen years of fishing experience at Dundee Beach puts us above any other company. The most prized reef fish is the Red Emperor and we have caught reds up to 8kg. Coral Trout are also rate highly and are fantastic eating. Golden Snapper are always a favourite because they smash baits and fight hard all the way. We can even target the big sharks on the reefs. Usually the sharks are stealing prized reef fish of the lines and are an unwelcome encounter. With heavy gear it's time to show the sharks who's the boss for a change. Mud Crabs are also plentiful in the area and crabbing is always a favourite. Your guide will teach you now to tie a Northern Territory Mudcrab and Emma makes a terrific chili mud crab back at the beach house.
