| We are a Registered Training Organisation providing competency based boat training and education. You can expect friendly and professional training from the NSW Boating College. It is the "personal touch" and dedication to improving safety on the water whilst instilling - confidence, knowledge and good boat handling skills that sets us apart. Our boat courses cover; an introduction to the bouyage systems in Australia, the International Collision Regulations, IALA bouyage system, safety equipment you should have aboard, responding to emergencies, navigation and lights. MARINE INDUSTRY STANDARDS All training is to industry and NMSC guidelines within the Outdoor Recreation Industry Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation. The units of competency are: SROYAC001B - Comply with maritime rules and regulations MEM50.8EA - Carry out trip preparation and planning MEM50.9AA - Safely operate a mechanically powered recreational boat MEM50.10EA - Respond to boating incidents and emergencies SROPWCOO1A - Select and maintain a personal watercraft SROPWCOO2A - Demonstrate basic skills to ride a PWC in controlled condition When you successfully complete the training and assessment you'll receive a "Certificate of Satisfactory Completion" which qualifies you for a NSW Maritime general (power-boat) or young adult licence. Once NSW Maritime have issued your licence you'll be ready to take your boat to sea. Commencing 1 June 2009 it will be a requirement for NSW General Boat Licence applicants to undergo practical on water training with either a Recognised Training Provider, such as the NSW Boating College, or by keeping log book entries from training with an experienced Skipper. BOAT LICENCE COURSE FULL DAY - theory and practical Commencing 1 June 2009 it became a requirement for NSW General Boat Licence applicants (this does not apply to PWC Licence applicants) to undergo practical on water training with either a Recognised Training Provider, such as the NSW Boating College, or by keeping log book entries from practical training with an experienced Skipper. An experienced Skipper who can verify your on water practical experience is someone such as a NSW Boating College Trainer, or an experienced Skipper. (must have held a boat licence for a minimum of three years) This course complies with the NSW Maritime practical boating experience requirements Course includes: 6 hours face-to face training Comprehensive notes to keep for future reference Experienced commercial skipper trainers Up to two hours on water training straight after sitting the boat licence test Focus on learning practical boat handling skills in wind and current. Receive the College Statement of Attainment and Satisfactory Course Completion Certificate. Emergency practice - man overboard Reinforce classroom learning with practical on-water training with our experienced skippers. This is a great opportunity to get behind the helm - to feel wind, current and get first-hand instruction on how to dock, anchor and learn important seamanship skills that will make your boating safe and enjoyable. Familarise yourself with navigation rules and regulations Underway with your Skipper you will be able to observe first-hand all the channel markers, instilling knowledge of operating a vessel up and down stream. (coming in or going out to see) Learn skills to get everyone home safetly after a great day on the water With your instructor carry out safey drills to find how to respond in an emergency such as;collision, fire, man overboard, grounding or a mechanical breakdown.Learning how to control a power boat is both exciting and exhilerating. Boating knowledge and skill is best learned in a controlled environment with qualified marine trainers who can quide you with good seamanship practises. Practical on-water training ensures you a fully aware of the maritime safety requirements that apply to every skipper on NSW waterways. Night Navigation Boating at night can be daunting and disorientating. The College Night Navigation practical is a great way to gain local knowledge of Sydney harbour at night. Learn how to navigate on a busy commercial port and importantly experience the characteristics of channel and cardinal markers in the dark. Snapshot of the day The day starts at 8.00am at one of our venues with theory sessions and test in the classroom. Everything you need to complete the course is supplied.Morning tea and generous lunches are available at all our venues for reasonable prices. Break times are flexible, subject to student numbers on the day. Your trainer will advise you of the ordering process at each venue. Some students bring their own packed lunch. Once the theory/test and lunch break is over then it's off to the local ramp. (ramp locations and details are provided on confirmation of booking). Our ramps are selected for their close location to our venues and ample parking.The day finishes around 5.30pm depending on which boat trip you are rostered onto. What you need to bring - drinking water, sunsreen, hat, sunglasses and sensible non-slip footware (no thongs) jacket - weather/warm. NSW Boating College Guarantee As a Registered Training Organisation the College is required to comply with national training standards and provide a high standard of training in order to achieve accreditation with NSW Maritime and NSW VETAB. A schedule of current licence fees are available to view from the NSW Maritime website. Students who have special needs such as significant problems with understanding, reading or writing English are advised to contact a local NSW Maritime centre, where interpretative services can be made available. The NSW Maritime Authority and the NSW Boating College remind all recreational boaties that it is the experience gained in a variety of conditions that will develop skill, competence, awareness and confidence on the water. NSW Maritime Boat Licence Test was made more difficult in October 2005 and it is fair to say that the failure rate has increased for applicants attending a boat licence test without proper preparation. Dangers at sea More & more people are being attracted to the water where more and more recreational boats are appearing of all shapes and sizes. Too many people are oblivious to the 'dangers at sea', drawn by the romance of the clear blue waters, white sands and long sunny days on the NSW Coast and Inland Waters. Boating offers a means of relaxation from otherwise busy and hectic lifestyles. Protect your assets Water Sports including Fishing, Diving, Sailing, Skiing, Kayaking and Cruising are increasingly involving a major expense in terms of assets and equipment. A medium size family run about can be worth the price of a motor car these days and go as fast! Family Safety We encourage all people new to the boating industry to come along as a family and experience the basic training. Over the last 5 years more people are opting for training through a Registered Training Organisation to ensure that they have the basics in place for the safety of family and friends on the water. |
