Impounding of Dinghies Under the provisions of the Impounding Act, Council is by law authorised to remove vessles that are abandoned, derelict or illegally stored on the foreshore areas where they constitute a hazard, cause damage to the environment or a nuisance to foreshore areas that do not comply with the conditions of use for Council's dinghy storage. Derelict, Abandoned or Illegally Stored Dinghies/Boats Dinghies stored on the foreshore in an uncontrolled manner, may be removed, from reserves where there is significant adverse recreational or environmental impact or where suitable storage facilities have been provided. Boats that have been abandoned, derelict or have been placed on a Council reserve illegally are to be removed and impounded by Council's authorised officers. These boats will be held at Council's impound and maybe disposed of in accordance with the Impounding Act 1993. Proof of ownership is required for release of any impounded boat. Payment of a release fee and fine may be required at the discretion of Council's authorised Officers. Dinghies without a current permit sticker or oversized Dinghies which do not display a current permit sticker in a clearly visible position or a dinghy that is over the height restriction for the facility may be impounded under the impounding Act 1993. Following advise from Council, owners should place the current permit sticker on their boat or remove oversized boat from the facility. Should you have any enquiries regarding an impounded vessle by Council, please contact Tanya Carmont, Reserves & Recreation officer on 9970 1353. Sale by Tender Unclaimed Dinghies that have been removed from the foreshore within Pittwater will be offered for Sale by Tender twice a year (depending on the number of vessles impounded). The Sale is held at Boondah Depot, 1 Boondah Road, Warriewood at a date and time to be notified via our Website and The Manly Daily. Members of the public wishing to participate will be able to view the boats at the time of the Sale by Tender and are advised that it is necessary to be on site at the time. The process of sale is by "sealed tender' in even dollar amounts. Council accepts payments made by Cash, cheque or credit cards (Visa or Mastercard). The highest tender will be accepted, if your bid is the highest and you are not on site when announced, the vessle will go to the next highest bidder. In the event of there being equal highest tenders, the matter will be settled by a draw out of the hat. |
