The Devonport Fly Fishing Club was formed in 1991 and since that time has grown to the stage of having a membership base from all areas of Tasmania and interstate. The Club's motto, "To promote all facets of Fly fishing and Good Fellowship", is maintained at all times and membership is encouraged from both men and women with a strong family involvement. Junior development is a high priority within the club and we participate in casting and fly-tying demonstrations at local schools when the opportunity arises. The Club has been actively involved in all areas of political and departmental decision making regarding the Tasmanian fishery and will continue to have input to all consultative programs put forward to us. Each year the Devonport Fly Fishing Club holds a Fly Fishing School/Camp at Hut Bay, Bronte Lagoon, aimed at teaching the art of fly fishing to beginners. In addition an intermediate course is held for those wishing to hone their skills. The emphasis is on teaching beginners the necessary skills to catch fish. The school/camp also places people with a shared interest in contact with each other, as a result many long lasting friendships are formed. The camp provides a friendly atmosphere where stories are shared, knowledge is acquired and the instructors who donate their time are more than approachable and willing to help. This is the only school/camp of its kind in Tasmania and has been held for a number of years.
