The area is located in the centre of Tasmania at an altitude of over 1000 metres. An established road system allows excellent access from all directions. Many of Tasmania's highland lakes are positioned in close proximity and provide countless fishing destinations that can be accessed within minutes of each other. There are two distinct wild trout fisheries, the larger man made hydro waters such as Great Lake and Arthurs Lake and the much smaller natural lagoons and tarns that lay scattered across the plateau. Individual waters offer unique variations in fish size, species and fishing methods. Brown trout are the most abundant and are prized for their consistent surface feeding qualities. Sight fishing opportunities abound as fast moving rainbows feed in wind slicks and browns either cruise over shallow flats, forage in lake margins, stealthily sip beetles from the surface or slash wildly at vulnerable may flies. Guided Fishing Our business provides guide fishing adventures for single anglers, multiple anglers, couples, families and corporate groups. We have developed our own unique guiding style, fishing techniques, fly patterns, lure choice and tackle configuration. These factors combined with our knowledge of Tasmania's most productive lakes and rivers is your assurance of enjoying the finest guided trout fishing experience. Our service includes assisting or arranging any matter related to your Tasmanian trout fishing holiday. We will arrange accommodation, hire cars and are available to answer any questions that you may have. Booking and Deposit Information Deposit payments are required within seven days of confirming your booking dates. The deposit amount for guided fishing is 30% and boat hire is 50%. The amount is calculated from the total of all services including accommodation. Cancellations within 60 days prior to the booking date are non-refundable. In this circumstance the deposit amount may be transferred to secure another booking although is subject to booking availability and current rates will apply. Refunds may incur administration, bank fee or credit card costs. Method of payment for deposits and balance: provide credit card details via phone or e-mail, direct deposit or cheque via post. Personal Qualifications Guides; :will possess excellent local fishing knowledge :will possess excellent fishing skills :will be educated in modern fishing techniques :will enjoy working with people and have excellent communication skills 2. Documented Qualifications Guides will have achieved the following qualifications; :Restricted coxswains licence :OH&S at sea :Fire fighting at sea :Workplace First Aid 3. Guides and Fishing The guide shall not fish unless; :expressly invited by the client to do so. :are in the process of demonstrating casting methods, fishing techniques or tackle. 4. Standard of Accommodation Accommodation is to at least qualify in minimum standards of cleanliness and hygiene. 5. Alcohol Guides will not operate a vehicle or boat if it is likely they would exceed legal limits. 6. Dress Guides should always wear clean and well maintained clothing appropriate to the service being provided at the time. 7. Vehicles, Boats and Equipment Guides will ensure that their vehicles, boats and other equipment are kept clean, safe and in serviceable condition. 8. Fishing Regulations Guides will abide by all IFS regulations and make every effort to ensure that clients also abide by the same regulations. 9. Catch and Release Guides should promote our preference for catch and release. Clients are welcome to keep their fish when and if appropriate. Salmon Ponds Visit the oldest trout hatchery and accompanying Museum in the Southern hemisphere. Trout for Tasmania's renowned fishing waters have been raised at the Salmon Ponds since 1864. Wander through the beautiful grounds amongst century old trees and buildings. Feed the different kinds of trout and salmon contained in the six large display ponds. Visit the hatchery where displays explain the annual cycle of fish breeding activities. The Wall in the Wilderness is Greg Duncan's commemoration of those who helped shape the past and present of Tasmania's central highlands. A work in progress, The Wall is being carved from three-metre high wooden panels. The carved panels will tell the history of the harsh Central Highlands. Lake St Clair National Park Lake St Clair is at the southern end of the world famous Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and is also the end point of the famous Overland Track. Carved by ice during several glaciations over the last two million years, this is the deepest lake in Australia. The area around Lake St Clair offers a range of walks among beautiful ancient forests.
