| Hydrofield Trihulls have long been regarded as excellent sea-boats. It is no co-incidence that the boats are chosen time after time by commercial operators - including the Australian Navy, and various rescue groups. Hydrofields are also popular with recreational fishermen - people who can appreciate the handling, ride and performance benefits of these craft. On Norfolk Island - based on a 6.6m hull - - with a custom glass floor Hydrofield Awesome 5.0m Hydrofields are built in Gloucester on the Mid-North Coast by Hydromax Multihulls. Manager, Seton Reynolds, has decades of experience with power multihulls; having founded the Maxicat boat range in the early 80s. Today, most of Seton's time is spent building Hydrofields to a discerning range of customers. In the Hydrofield boat range there are four basic hull sizes, with a few layout variations available for each hull. Model lengths now include 5.0, 5.6, 6.6 and 8.8m. Custom boats can also be built. Most models have a runabout/cuddy cabin layout with berths forward, a compact helm area, and a whopping huge rear cockpit. The 6.6m Hydrofield Jaguar is also available as a hard top wheelhouse cruiser, while the big 8.8 can be ordered with a full fly bridge. For coastal and offshore fishing, the 5.0, 5.6, and 6.6m boats are of the most interest. The boats are all good performers, but as you get larger in size I believe they get exponentially better. My favourite is the big, wide-beam 6.6m boat. It is simply exceptional in rough water; very soft, incredibly stable, and reasonably dry. With a single V6 outboard on the transom it is also a very quick boat, running to a top speed in the high 30 knot area. Western Australia Waterways - based on a Hydrofield 6.6m hull Raby Bay (Qld.) Air Sea Rescue - based on a Hydrofield 8.8m hull As with all of the Hydrofields, the 6.6m has a deep vee centre hull flanked by smaller outer hulls. The latest boats also have stepped or "cutaway" chines to improve handling and cornering. Fitted with a pair of 115 hp outboards, full rocket launcher, outriggers, the works, the 6.6m Hydrofield is a superb offshore fisher. |
