| A private trout fishery providing an ideal opportunity to catch elusive wild Tasmanian rainbow or brown trout. Located in Riverside. Just twenty minutes drive away from the bustle of Launceston city brings you to Launceston Lakes Trout Fishery. These private waters have over 5 kilometres of meandering shoreline. Five trout filled lakes are set amongst 900 acres of native bush. Nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Tamar Valley Region, Launceston Lakes adjoins native bushland where wallabies, wombats, echidnas and other Australian fauna can be seen foraging for food. You may be experienced and want to take in the dawn rise, or you may be a beginner and need some tuition. Whatever your level of expertise, Launceston Lakes has what you are looking for. At Launceston Lakes the beginner is not forgotten. Expert tuition by experienced guides is readily available. This ensures that everyone fishing the lakes has more than a sporting chance of landing that big one. Tuition begins promptly at 10am in the day room with expert first-hand instruction. The photo below shows instructor and guide, Terry Sutton, demonstrating some of the finer points of fly fishing to a small group of men. The beginner practises fly casting techniques, at a specially prepared pond, under the watchful eye of our trained guide. After three hours of tuition you are ready to venture out onto the main lakes for some serious fishing alone. FLY FISHING Half day fly fishing: $A60 Full day fly fishing: $A80 Half day incl. 3 hrs tuition: $A105 Full day incl. 3 hrs tuition: $A135 (Tackle hire included in tuition fee. Bookings recommended.) Tailing Brown Trout search the shores for food early in the mornings and evenings, while "Rainbows" cruise the open waters ever ready for that well presented fly. For those learning we have sheltered water. There is a comfortable day room with rest-rooms, and kitchen facilities for tea and coffee. Sheltered BBQ's near the large lake provide an excellent location to cook your own lunch - so bringing a picnic hamper is always recommended. LURE FISHING Half day lure fishing: $A60 Full day lure fishing: $A80 ( Includes tackle hire if required. Lures are also available for sale). As seen above, hiring a boat guarantees a peaceful day's fishing on one of our beautiful lakes. For those who are not into fly fishing we also offer the option of Lure or Spin fishing. It should be noted that the half day and full day fees include the hire of your rod. We also have lures for sale. (But by all means, bring your own tackle if you like!) Boat hire if required is $A22 per half day. Our aluminium boats only hold two people, so peace and quiet can always be assured. Because you are fishing in private waters the extra expense of a trout fishing licence is not required. |
