LORELLA SPRINGS WILDERNESS PARK

Travel to Way Outback Australia, in the Northern Territory's Gulf of Carpentaria,
along the Savannah Way - camping, caravanning, adventuring, swimming, fishing, bush walking, sight seeing, 4WD driving, bird watching, crocodile spotting, relaxing - and much, much more.
Drive in or Fly in.
Accessible in the dry season, by most outback prepared vehicles.

Comfortable African Style Safari Tent Accommodation also available.
Located 15 degrees south of the equator, in one of the remotest and most isolated areas of Australia or even planet Earth, we offer a superb retreat experience of an outstanding natural wilderness environment.

Fronting the Gulf of Carpentaria, just off the Savannah Way, Lorella Springs Station is a virtually untouched one million acre property. A dream retreat with a magical atmosphere of solitude and serenity. It is the final frontier of an ever changing world.

Move away from the idyllic, unspoilt beaches on its 20 kilometres of ocean frontage, past the bird filled lakes, past rivers, hills, forests and savannah lands, climb past chasms, past waterfalls, past thermal springs, up the towering glittering crystalline escarpments, surveying this majestic massive country, and, as far as possible in every direction, all you can see is "Lorella".

Lorella homestead and camping and caravanning area is situated on the Lorella Thermal Spring. Best time to be here usually starts in April, after the wet, and goes through to October - November, when the N.T. starts to heat up.

Huddled at the base of the Tawallah Range is the beautiful natural, crystal clear, hot thermal spring, bubbling and pushing its way out from underground, cascading thousands of litres of water from this pretty pandanus lined rock hole in the gap of the ranges. Flowing straight past our picturesque campground, this spring is the head waters of the pristine and unspoiled Rosie River, which winds and turns about one hundred kilometres through rugged and spectacular terrain to eventually flow through to the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria . The Rosie River is bubbling teaming bursting with wildlife.

The camp ground extends extensively with the creek meandering along the lush paperbark lined banks. There are acres of green grassy sites running down to the waters edge, so that you can select your own camp and relax to the gentle sounds of flowing water trickling past. Perhaps even fish out of your tent.

When you first arrive, we try to make you feel very much at home, giving out help and advice where we can on where a good fishing spot may be. Or how to get to a nice, safe swimming hole, where to put your cherubim and red claw traps, 4WD driving trails, and so on. Whether you are a young family with kids, or "Grey Nomads", you will find lots to do here. Most people that come for the day stay for much, much longer - so allow plenty of time. Many that come state that Lorella is the highlight of their around Australia Adventure.

Lorella is great to meet new friends with similar interests. When you have set up your camp, if you wish you are invited to join everyone as we have a cook up in our undercover communal barbeque area. It is a very good place to sit around the fire which always has the billy boiling for a cuppa, or a cold beer and yarn in to the night with the owners and other visitors. There is fire wood and BBQ's if you wish to be on your own.

There is a section of the spring which has been cleared out and converted to a natural hot water swimming pool . Once you get in you will not want to get out . ( Many people say it has health and healing remedies, and call it the "Magic Spring"). After sitting by the fire getting to know your new companions, you may all decide to walk down to the spring and light the Bon fire that is already set for you, peel off your clothes and soak the night away.
