YouFishTV is a refreshing new television experience made by fishermen for fishermen. Never before has there been a concept like this. Each and every week we will endeavour to meet a new and interesting personality who is willing to host (or co-host) our show and share the secrets and techniques central to their fishing identity and success. A deep look if you like, into what makes them tick as a fisho and as a person. Along the way we will meet and be entertained by some of the most unique and colorful Australian characters you can imagine, and not just experts and celebrities either, but everyday men, women and children from all walks of life. All the while visiting some of the most breathtaking and wild destinations down under. Brendan Wing, 36 year old father of two wonderous love beasts (Billie and Fin) and partner to Justine, is a hardcore saltwater fisho who specialises in chasing big fish around South East Australia. Born in Frankston, Victoria in 1971, he spent his teen years fishing landbased on the shores and many piers around Melboune's Port Phillip and Western Port. As a child his family holidays were always to Flinder's Island and Wilson's Prom where he learnt the craft of fishing from his father and nanna. He bought his first boat at 17 years of age and to this day still spends most of his fishing time in a boat. His favourite species are snapper, gummy shark and mulloway but he did a lot of whiting fishing as a teen and still has a soft spot for the hard fighting Australian salmon. However he targets all the usual cool water favourites these days from Dusky flathead to Kingfish & Tuna. Brendan won the Australian Snapper Championship at Whyalla 2004 in the team event and was also crowned for the biggest snapper in the 2007 Tea Tree Snapper competition - Australia's largest salt water fishing contest. That fish measured 95cms (10.5kgs) and was released! Over the last decade he has contributed photojournalism to all the top national and regional fishing magazines and his greatest achievements in this field have been his several dozen front cover photos. He is also a renowned and controversial blogger on Australia's largest fishing website Fishnet.com.au where he spends much of his time interacting with the larger fishing community. He gives and takes much inspiration from the people on this site. An extended tenure at Australia's largest marine dealer selling, testing and demonstrating hundreds of trailer boats and cruisers gave him first hand experience/knowledge on just about every brand of boat, motor and trailer available in Australia today. He formed strong opinions on all of them. He also founded Salty Dog Films which produces high-quality, ethical sports fishing films. Titles in the collection include Great Grey Submarines, Secret Silver, Snapper Down Under and Victorian Bluefin. Winga's vision is to set high standards in fishing film making and to pioneer new styles of fishing through his work. His 1st title, the best-selling Great Grey Subs put gummy shark fishing on the map in southern Australia and delivered a profound message about fishery conservation to the masses. Tune into national radio Sport 927's weekly fishing show 'Casting Off' via the internet or radio on Saturday morning's to hear his live on-water reports of what's biting and where! |
